Danish Sound Day 2017
A couple of months ago, for the third year running AWE attended Danish Sound Day 2017. This years location was in the home city of B&O in Struer aka The City of Sound. In this article, we talk about our new demo, the pitch in the Startup Pitch Battle and some of the key takeaways about the future direction of the Danish Sound ecosystem is potentially heading in.
Startup Pitch Battle:
One of the reasons for venturing to the far North of Denmark was because we got selected as one of the finalists for the Startup Pitch Battle alongside 2 other companies; Blackbox, another fellow Lydenshus startup with their and a company who will soon be joining our fellow office space and the winners Low-fi. Despite not coming home with the prizes (FYI new startups: 3 months Free Office Space, and a very cool trophy) we had the amazing opportunity to get feedback on our pitch from the experts.
We have been working on our new showcase called 1807 which was demoed at the event. The demo is an audio re-enactment of Copenhagen in September 1807 being bombarded by the English in order to capture the danish fleet, during the Napoleonic Wars. The location is set at Vor Frue Kirke an iconic church situated in the heart of Copenhagen. As the demo was still in a primal prototype stage it was a great opportunity for us to get much valued feedback. Noticing that most people found it difficult to hold their phone without looking at the screen, we knew that it is important to try and design a way around this. Which we ended up doing for a second demo session a month later at Folkemødet on the Danish Island of Bornholm.
Our demo is now available on both the App store and Play store. So if you’re about Von Frue Kirke, and fancy something new then download our app and give it a listen! We would like to say a massive thank you to for AIAIAI sponsoring there headsets for the event.
The future of Danish Sound:
The day was filled with competitions from startups and PhD students, and exciting talks and workshops to get your creative process active.
Danish Sound has identified 3 major challenges related to future trends and challenges within the society. They believe that the challenges have a huge potential in terms of research, idea generation and development. To get feedback from the audio community they organized workshops at Danish Sound Day within the following themes.
- Urban & Environmental Sound Solutions
- Digital & Creative Sound Solutions
- Sound Solutions For Healthcare
Danish Sound works with these area because it is believed that working hard in these areas will lead Denmark and the danish sound ecosystem to be the forerunners of sound development globally.
The workshops were designed to encourage innovation in a problem solving format. By being mixed with a variety of sound experts all dabbling in different fields gave a very refreshing outcome on the ideas.
Here’s a video sum up of the day by Danish Sound:
All in all, we can safely conclude that we will be back again at next year’s event. The event is excellent for networking for both fresh Startups and large established companies. But also an amazing opportunity to hear the latest in the news within the Danish Sound community and find potential new partners. As well as an excuse to have a nice glass of bubbly!
